Clothes Spin

THE CLOTHES SPIN

2930 Sacramento, Berkeley • 841-3767

So what if Milt’s Coin-Op burnt to the ground under suspicious circumstances? You can still go to the Clothes Spin Laundromat. Don’t like the bar scene? Linger around the Spin long enough and you might find a girl washing a Bauhaus shirt. Then you could ask her what laundry detergent she uses so as not to fade the black. Then you can show her your faded Joy Div shirt. Oh wait, that’s my fantasy. Do your laundry in the middle of the night in a public place before it becomes something you can just do online.

Washouse

‘LECTRIC WASHOUSE

5900 Telegraph Ave., Oakland • 654-5534

Ordinarily, I am a stickler for spelling words as they’d appear in the OED. Internet slang and gratuitous quotes on storefront signs are examples of language misuse by which I cannot abide. However, the juxtaposition of punctuation and spelling going on at the ‘Lectric Washouse somehow transcends all that. It looks good in print and it feels terrific to say it. ‘Lectric Washouse ‘Lectric Washouse ‘Lectric Washouse. Now go do some laundry.
